Issue 6: "The Constitution Caper" (August 19, 2005)

Short form:

Trickster announces he's going to steal the USS Constitution. The group decides to use this as a distraction to steal the actual U.S. Consitution. They are successful. Then, despite the fact that the ship is being guarded by Freedom Force, including Manifest Destiny who can see the future, Trickster decides to go ahead with his plans to steal it. Of course, they're ready for him and he barely evades capture. The group sells the Constitution at auction where they get nearly a billion for it. They probably could have gotten more except for the bit where the guy who won the auction killed the American rep. who was bidding for it. The group is happy with the amount until Totenkopf comes on TV wanting 3 billion for the Constitution. The group also learns Dr. Deimos is the author of a blog that correctly guessed that Trickster stole the Constitution before Totenkopf got it.

Long form:

Trickster wants to steal the USS Constitution. Why? Because it's fun! He's convinced he can find a buyer for it. Then he says he wants to announce his intentions on the air beforehand. Most of the group thinks he's crazy. He insists it's more fun this way. The group is unconvinced. They do think it will make a handy distraction to cover for another caper. Why not steal the actual U.S. Constitution? The plan is to have Corrupter de-age it so it looks like a fake before stealing it. Naturally, he practices a lot first.

Trickster makes his announcement. The government's response is to pull Freedom Force out of Iraq and have them guard the ship. Freedom Force consists of Manifest Destiny, who is a telepath and can see the future. Polaris knows that he has to think what he wants to know, rather than it coming to him randomly, and he's never been wrong. He wears what looks like a general's uniform. Also present is Army of One, a trained Army ranger, who can make *many* duplicates of himself while he hides somewhere safe. Polaris knows that it doesn't hurt him if one or many of his duplicates are killed. Right now there are 600-700 of them in body armor guarding the ship. F-16, who has power armor or maybe is a cyborg, is doing overflights of the area. Polaris knows he flies, shoots missiles, has an auto-cannon, and radar. M-1 is basically armored like a tank. Armada wears a submarine suit, which works underwater, fires torpedoes, has sonar, etc. Polaris doesn't know as much about Apollo 19, since he joined recently. He has a black outfit with infinite stars in it, and apparently flies, shoots bolts of energy, and absorbs energy. Manifest Destiny assures the TV cameras that they have the place surrounded. Polaris shares with the group what she knows about Freedom Force, but not how she knows it.

The Constitution caper goes according to plan. However, Trickster still wants to make an attempt on stealing the ship. The rest of the group wants no part of this. He sneaks in, gets onboard, and despite being invisible is eventually hit from behind and knocked overboard. It quickly becomes apparent that all of his actions have been foreseen and planned for. Amazingly, Trickster manages to get away, but it's a near thing. The ship remains safe in Boston Harbor. However, as Trickster leaves, he makes an illusion of a message in the sky, bragging that he stole the real target, the paper Constitution.

Officially, no mention is made of the theft of the Constitution. No news reports mention Trickster's message, and while pictures show up briefly on the web, all are soon taken down. No matter, The group sells the Constitution at auction for nearly a billion dollars. They probably could have gotten more, but the representative who bought it exploded the head of the representative of the U.S. Government, which cooled the bidding after that. A few days later, and old guy in a Nazi uniform breaks in on TV. He calls himself Totenkopf (which means Dead Head) of the new Fourth Reich, and he says he has the Constitution. He shows the document, and the group can tell it's real because it has the marks in each corner from where Corruptor tacked it down. He wants three billion dollars for it.

Only one blog correctly speculates that Trickster stole the Constitution first, then sold it to Totenkopf. The author seems very astute in his other entries. The group is unable to track down who he is, until they get Chronomancer involved. It takes him 45 minutes, and Al the AI reports it was more difficult than he expected. Apparently, the author is a retired super-villain...Dr. Deimos.

Post subject: Issue 7: "But Is It Art?" or "Goya My Dreams&
August 26, 2005

Short form:

Dr. Science gets a new body, a brick/P.I. from Harlen named Jackson Stone. The group fakes Stone's death and pins it on the Fourth Reich.

A meeting is setup with ACT so Corrupter can arm his minions. Polaris decides to spend some of her new wealth on 20 minions of her own.

The group talks about what to do regarding the enemy who threatened them with the nuke. Dr. Science eventually agrees to continue looking into the matter.

Trickster proposes another heist. This time it isn't advertised in advance. He and Polaris break into the NYMOMA to steal 14 hellish Goya paintings being shown there. Things go great until Ion and Dr. Severus show up. They are eventually beaten, while Polaris' minions engage the police outside. Velocity poses another problem as they are escaping, more to Polaris' minions than Trickster and Polaris themselves, but Trickster distracts him. The villains and minions escape concealed by Trickster's invisibility as Patriot arrives on the scene. The paintings are sold to Trickster's buyer, a group called the Convenant, and those involved head off to Aruba to celebrate/lie low.

Long form:

Dr. Science wants a new body. He settles on a not very well-known brick/P.I. in Harlem named Jackson Stone. After putting his old Starman body into deep freeze storage, the group pulls up to his building in an egg carried by Liliana's mech, which Trickster makes look like a stretch limo. It double-parks, they go inside, Dr. Science controls the brick. They decide to steal his files, since there are some super-heroes in them, so Polaris simply takes the entire file cabinet. The group then stages a fight, complete with illusory Fourth Reich soldiers. They all fire on Stone, and when the dust clears, there appears to be nothing left of him but a pile of rubble. The stretch limo pulls away, morphing while under a bridge into a semi and then later a funeral procession.

Trickster wants to go clubbing to celebrate. The others think doing this in New York is a bad idea. They settle on Atlanta. While they are there, Trickster breaks into the Coca-Cola company and steals the secret formula, replacing it with a recipe for green jello with vegetables.

Corrupter wants to arm his minions, so Trickster sets up a meeting with ACT, who are well-known weapons merchants. Corruptor equips his minions with weapons and uniforms similar to his. Polaris decides she wants minions as well, so she spends 50 million to hire 20 minions through ACT. They are well-trained mercenary army ranger-types.

Much discussion takes place over investigating the mysterious enemy who tried to bomb them. Polaris argues that they can't just ignore them and hope they go away. There is general agreement that more information would be helpful, but really, only Dr. Science has the skill to delve further. He agrees to look into it some more. Trickster also, unbeknownst to anyone, contacts Ion, an auxiliary Justice Legion member, and tells him about the attempt to attack him with the nuke. Ion, of course, is a little dubious, but has to admit that even if they don't care about squabbling amongst villains, the theft of a nuclear missile bears looking into.

Trickster proposes stealing 14 hellish Goya paintings being shown at the NYMOMA. Apparently if they are all put together and the right ritual is done at the right time, the paintings become portals into the places they depict. He already has a buyer lined up. The paintings will be tough to move, since they are on plaster - Goya painted them on the walls of his house. Polaris figures she could lift them, no problem, if they were in some kind of metal case. Corrupter has his people make up plexiglass carrying cases with metal corners that will be fitted on the paintings. Polaris and Trickster check the exhibit out, disguised by Trickster's illusions. The final plan is to go back the next day looking like different tourists, stay until the place closes, move to the exhibit, have Polaris disable the alarms, and go to work. They figure disabling the alarms will probably trigger an alarm someplace else, but they should have time to get the paintings and leave before anyone can respond. Just in case, 10 of Polaris' minions will be outside the building to hold off anyone who might show up.

Everything goes according to plan at first. Oddly, Trickster insists on finding a bucket and filling it with water. He has Polaris hold it over the door to the exhibit room. They've put the plexiglass carrying cases on one and are halfway through the second when Ion shows up and electrifies the room. Both Trickster and Polaris remain conscious, but the attack causes Polaris to drop the bucket, which lands on Ion. Water and electricity mix poorly. Trickster cackles about Ion falling for that again. Then Dr. Severus arrives. Fighting ensues. Trickster attacks with an illusion of demons from the paintings, while Polaris injures Severus and Ion with shrapnel from her utility belt, taking out one of Severus eyes. Severus begins to cast a spell. Polaris flattens him with one of the plexiglass cases. He gets up and smashes his cane on the ground, creating a flash of light. Polaris is blinded, Trickster is not. Polaris gets a radio call from her men outside and tells them to send some men in. Then she magnetically pulls the cane from Severus. Upon breaking it, she finds that there is a sword inside. She stabs Severus with it, locating him by the shrapnel still stuck in his body. Severus places a mental hold on Polaris long enough to use a spell to slow her down. Trickster makes an illusion of a security guard being held by one of Polaris' minions, and uses it to force Severus to back off. He then sneaks up on Severus invisibly and clubs him unconscious. Polaris' men arrive, and the spell wears off of her in a few minutes. She resumes putting on the carrying cases. Trickster checks out Ion, who's bleeding badly. Severus groans and starts to wake up. One of Polaris' men goes to shoot him, but Trickster protests, so he knocks Severus out with the butt of his gun instead. After four more painting are ready for transport, they begin to hear sirens from outside, then the sound of explosions and gunfire. Trickster goes to check things out. Polaris continues readying paintings. Trickster finds Polaris' minions shooting lasers at the police, and one of them is using a shoulder-mounted rocket launcher. One rocket's already been fired. Trickster keeps the second one from hitting its target. *sigh* Polaris finishes preparing the paintings, and leaves by the fastest route...the roof, blasting her way up through three floors, bringing the paintings and the four men who were with her behind her. At the same time Trickster is attempting to get the police to leave by faking a radio call telling them to pull back, since heroes will be arriving in a couple of minutes. Then Trickster hears a voice say that he'll only need a couple of minutes, and sees a blur moving around, beating up Polaris' minions. Trickster cleverly makes many duplicates of the minions, making it difficult for Velocity to find his real targets. Polaris pulls her men out of danger and heads for Central Park. Walkie-Talkie, her comm guy, warns her they have incoming heroes, then confirms Patriot's coming. Polaris tells Trickster to get going. He lingers long enough to bring Ion outside to get medical help. Then, concealed by Trickster's invisibility, they slip by the arriving Patriot.

Eventually, they arrive at Trickster's New Jersey safe house. They listen in on the police radios for a while to see what's happening back at the museum, until they hear the Shadow telling the police to clear the channel. Oh well. They procure a TV to try and catch any news reports about the incident, but the screen goes all staticy, and a shadow figure appears on it. It speaks with what sounds like many voices at once. It's the Convenent, calling to claim the paintings. Trickster names his price, 250 million, they agree, he verifies the money's in his Antigua account, and it turns out it's been there since yesterday. He asks where they want to meet to receive the paintings. Oh, they're coming to get them now, and they suggest Trickster and co. might want to leave, since they might find those who are coming...unpleasant. Since Trickster and Polaris are starting to bleed from the nose, they figure this is a good idea and all of them pull out and head down to Aruba to celebrate.

Oh mighty GM, can you allow me to edit these posts, so I can put the game titles in? Or should I just repost them?
