Short version:

Dr. Science builds his anti-Dr. Severus device, then the group goes looking for the monastery containing the key mentioned by the Covenant. Finding a Tibetan monastery complete with fusion reactor and secret base, they decide it's as good a place to start as any, and infiltrate. They encounter the Man with Green Gloves, and, after a yummy meal of human remains, they agree to work together to get the key from the nearby ki-lin that guards it. With the help of Dr. Science's brain, Corruptor's tunneling, Green Gloves' ward blocking, a few Polaris-guided (and Trickster-multiplied) meteorite-iron spears (hey, Polaris missles!) and Liliana's giant-mech canon, they get the key and blow the ki-lin to bits. Well, maybe not, but at least they hurt it and make it run away. Next stop, Las Vegas, a place that all agree is an ideal place to confront Dr. Severus. Green Gloves will help them, in exchange for them leaving him the key after they have all passed on...without any help from him. Smile

Long version:

Several weeks pass. Dr. Science builds his device to interfere with Dr. Severus' power. The group tries to find the monastery with the key mentioned by the Covenant. There are no records of any mountains called Copper-colored. Naturally. Polaris guesses they must look like that at sunset, or something. They start using the satellite to check things out, but there are a lot of monasteries in Tibet. When Dr. Science has the satellite look for fusion reactors, however, they find one in a monastery. Spying on it, they see supplies being transfered into a secret base in the mountain below the monastery.

Trickster returns to base, talking kind of strangely. He sometimes says "we" instead of "I," refers to Ryan, Spectrum's secret identity, as a separate person, etc. Corrupter says his brain is damaged and wants to fix him. Um, no. Spectrum was apparently involved in repelling the alien invasion with the Justice Legion, and was trapped in another dimension for three months...in a small capsule...with Ion. But nothing happened. Sure.... The group fills Trickster in on what they've learned. They're planning to attack the monastery with the secret base. He wants in.

The group travels to the vicinity of the monastery, where Dr. Science proceeds to possess a monk. Sadly, the monk doesn't know a lot about the monastery they're interested in. The group sneaks into the monastery, concealed by Trickster. Liliana remains in her mech but sends a robot version of herself along. Polaris senses a strange magnetic signature in the building, so they head in that direction. This leads them down a huge corridor, where every niche in the walls contains statues of Tibetan warriors with long, straight swords. The door at the end is not locked. Trickster goes insubstantial and pokes his head through it. Inside is a large temple, lit by thousands of small butter lamps. There are many large statues in the wall recesses, left-handed swastikas on the walls, and in the center is a large, iron bell. At the top of the bell is a crown with a lightning bolt in the center. Sitting around the bell are seven monks, and in their laps are metal devices that look like scepters. On each end is a crown with a lightning bolt. The bell and devices are the source of the strange magnetic signature that Polaris was picking up. The monks are all chanting a mantra that Dr. Science's possessed monk doesn't understand. He can tell it's a mantra to a female deity, and thinks it's a protector practice. Essentially, they are doing the spiritual/mystical work that is necessary to keep the world safe. The monk doesn't know what the bell is, but really doesn't want to ring it. He believes that if you touch the sacred objects, and you're not supposed to, you'll be reincarnated as a lesser life form. Naturally, Polaris is tempted to ring it.

Trickster brings the group into the room through the door. In the shadows on the other side of the room is a door that looks like a vault door, with the 8 great symbols of Buddhism on it. There is Tibetan writing on it and a great inscription of a Tibetan crown. The monk recognizes the crown as the sign of Gesar of Leng, the great King of Shamballa. He thinks the room must contain relics - the guy is like their King Arthur and a saint all wrapped up in one. He also had vast magical powers. Trickster tries to phase Liliana through the vault door, and bounces off of it. The lights get brighter, the monks stand, and the door Trickster brought the group through opens. Through it comes a man wearing black robes and green jade gloves. The monk recognizes him as the most powerful sorcerer in Tibet.

The man stops and says he knows they are there - he can taste their spirits. Trickster asks him how many of them there are. Green Gloves says five, which is technically correct, since Liliana's robot has no soul but Dr. Science possessing the monk reads as two. Trickster drops the illusion. Green Gloves bows slightly, and addresses them one by one. Trickster, he says, is no common thief. Polaris has blood on her hands and on her soul...she would do well here. He notes with approval that she killed her father - apparently their acolytes must kill both of their parents as part of their initiation. Dr. Science he calls a very young demon. The monks here worship the Black Llama. Polaris asks what would happen if the bell were rung. It would signal the end of the 5th age. What happens after that? An age of darkness. What is the bell made of? Iron from a meteor.

The group is invited to dinner. Among the dishes served is yak's milk containing human blood and mo-mos made of human meat. This doesn't phase Polaris. Trickster, on the other hand, doesn't want to know what's in the food.

Green Gloves asks why they want the key. To use it against an enemy. Will they keep it afterwards? That depends on what it does. The sorcerer tells them the key is in the nearby white monastery and offers to reward them if they give the key to him after they are done with it. What guards the key? A ki-lin. It's a cross between a horse and a dragon. It's ancient, immortal and immensely powerful. Every now and then, an acolyte tries to get the key, and is thrown to his death against the mountain. Would meteor iron hurt the ki-lin? It might, but the bell cannot leave the monastery. If they could get more? He could do something with that. Is the key really a key? Yes. If it opens the gateway, what will it unleash? Darkness on the world. So, opening the gateway will end the 5th age? He smiles.

Liliana fetches a meteorite, which Corrupter helps the monks shape into some spears. The group and and Green Gloves sneak into the mountain where the key is kept, via Corrupter's tunneling. Green Gloves holds off the wards as they come into the cavern where the key is, and tells them to hurry. Trickster tells Polaris to grab the key. Yeah right. Liliana sends her robot to grab it, and it bursts into flames and melts. Ooops. Polaris grabs the key with some metal, and they get the hell out. They hear an angry roar behind them, and the wind whistles in the tunnel behind them. Polaris collapse the passage behind them and they escape out of the mountain. With a roar, the ki-lin bursts out of the white monastery, deafening Polaris and Corrupter. Polaris throws five of the spears at it, helped by Trickster, who makes them look like 25. Four of the spears hit, causing the thing a lot of pain. Liliana opens fire on it, hurting it more. Enough so that it decides to retreat. Liliana fires on it with her hand canon, causing it to retreat so quickly that it's like it vanished.

So now what? Well, now they have to figure out where to lure Dr. Severus. They could use the black monastery, but the risk is, the monks may betray them, knowing they now have the key. Corrupter does not want to stay there. But they need someone who knows sorcery. They decide to ask Green Gloves to accompany them, and ask his advice on where best to fight Dr. Severus. He suggests they avoid any nexuses of dragon lines, places of ancient powers, under the earth, under the water, and places that are in-between places, like valleys. Also, avoid twilight or dawn. At twilight hours, Dr. Severus can draw you into the dreamland. Trickster suggests Las Vegas. Green Gloves thinks that would be a good spot - it's a city that never sleeps, full of greed and immorality, in a desert...Dr. Severus will not be very powerful there. Plus, Green Gloves' allies (the ones who have a base beneath the monastery) have a base there. Can he tell them who leader of his allies is? Baron Morden. Great...Trickster does not like Morden. The final deal is that Green Gloves will use the key to lure Dr. Severus, and then give it back to them. Then, after they all have passed on (of natural causes), the key will go to him.

Addressing a slight error in the log:

The group is aware that the Ki-Lin is alive. The mech's cannon caused it to 'retreat so quickly it was as if it vanished.'

It is a highly intelligent creature that understood how badly outmatched it was.
