All hope seems lost for our intrepid villains: their base destroyed, Liliana lost, the Justice Legion breathing down their necks. But wait, it seems that while Dr. Science was trapped in the past, he made some very sound investments. Nothing like knowing which way the stock market is going to go for the next 30 years. Looks like the group is still rich - and they have a handy new secret base, already built. The down side? It's in the Flatiron Building in New York City, home of the Justice Legion. Well, you can't have everything. In an amusing note, the legal business being run out of the building? A marketing firm. See, this just proves ad agencies really are evil.
With a new base all taken care of, the group next sets out to find a mage to join their group. Recruiting at the Tartarus Club turns up an agreement with Blackie to send them some candidates plus destroy Trickster's blood sample that's still in Justice Legion hands, in exchange for telling him the location of Dr. Severus' soul. The fact that it's at the bottom of the Indian Ocean doesn't seem to phase Blackie at all. Everyone has such a good time that they come back again the next day, this time trading the name and sigil of a demon that Dr. Science encountered, along with an ad campaign for RJ Reynolds, for what Blackie knows about the Shadow. Which turns out to be that the Shadow is a tantric-vajrayana master. Yeah, we giggled too. Apparently this means that he's a kick-ass mystic who can see through all illusions, etc. Oh, goodie. On the plus side, he keeps some of his power in a ring he wears - the trick is actually getting the ring.
The group decides to lay low for six months to allow the Justice Legion to be distracted by other villains, natural disasters, alien invasions, etc. Plus, Trickster gets to gather more information and sow more dissent in the Justice Legion, which is always fun. As if that weren't enough, he also manages to wangle a date with Ms. Miracle, who apparently hasn't figured out that he's gay. Maybe we should call her Ms. Oblivious.
I've held a fusion reactor together. What have you done lately?
"Hey, I don't eat souls, I kill people. There's a difference."
